Network interruptions are common on the Internet. LiveVault recovers automatically from network interruptions. A connection integrity feature restores the secured connection from the Agent to the backup server if a network interruption occurs.
The following steps outline how LiveVault handles a network interruption:
-
A network interruption occurs, preventing the Agent from connecting to the backup server.
-
The Agent checks the network for connectivity every two minutes until connectivity is available.
-
During network interruptions of up to five minutes, backup and restore operations continue:
Backup: The Agent continues operating locally, caching file changes for up to five minutes.
Restore: Network restore jobs remain active for up to five minutes, but cannot transmit the data.
-
After five minutes of network interruption, backup and restore operations cease:
Backup: The Agent stops caching changes and discards the currently cached changes.
Restore: Network restore jobs fail and you must resubmit them when network connectivity is available.
-
After an Agent has been disconnected for more than 15 minutes, LiveVault Web Management Portal displays the status Disconnected for the Agent computer.
-
When network connectivity is available, the Agent reconnects to the backup server through a secure connection.
-
Backup operations resume, based on the duration of the network interruptions:
Less than five minute interruption: Backup configurations that were running before the interruption continue where they left off.
Five minutes or more interruption: All backup configurations that are scheduled to be running when the reconnection occurs restart, synchronizing changed files.
