What is your Encryption Key?
An encryption key is an element of the security that protects your data. The system creates an encryption key and gives you a password to that key when you add a new agent for the first time.
This encryption key, known only to you, fully encrypts your data before it leaves your server, and it remains encrypted when not on your server, even at the off-site vaulting center. The combination of fully encrypted data and a secure, authenticated transmission implemented using Secure Socket Layer and digital certificate technology ensures end-to-end data protection.
To restore data to another server or to re-provision an existing server you need to know your encryption key
To Recover Your Encryption Key
- During installation of the agent, you have the option to Escrow your encryption key with us (default), if you leave this option selected then we are able to recover your key for you.
- If you deselected the option to Escrow your key with us we are unable to recover your key for you.
